Trouble brewing for FKL/Kawangware FC

NATIONWIDE League side Kawangware Sports Club have vowed to go to the highest court in the land and ensure justice is observed if Football Kenya Limited (FKL) will not include them in this years fixtures.

Club secretary General Eric Nyangwechi yesterday blew the whistle saying FKL have gone out of their mandate by mandating Sultan Hamud based Opera to replace them since they had not paid last seasons participation fee which they did last month.

Contacted for comment,Erastus Okul who is the Chairman of the FKL National League & Competition committee told Kawangware off adding that they were given time and even a seven day's notice last October to clear their participation fee which they failed to oblige.

Okul clarified that rules must be followed and Kawangware SC were not superior than other teams.

“Infact, they should be the last team to complain since we allowed them to play while other teams were accusing us for giving them preferential treatment. We were even under pressure from other clubs to struck them off but since we knew they had no sponsor or source of income, we allowed them to participate. They should not politicise the matter since they are guilty,” Observed Okul on phone.

The club insisted that despite finishing 10thin the League out of 16 clubs, and also updating the federation of their financial position, they were surprised to find a team their name has been dileted and replaced by Opera FC.

“We kept on updating the federation on our status and mission in search of financial support till the end of the season. During this period our efforts were on negotiations with different sponsors that we had come across. We informed the
federation secretariate that the club is ready to pay the debt before the start of the season 2010," said Nyangwechi.

“As per the new mode of payment proposed by the federation,Nyangwechi added, we paid the said balance of kshs. 60,000 through the FKL's bank account after which the official Football Kenya Limited receipt confirming the payment was issued. We then went forward and paid the 2010 season participation fee as adviced. We have been informed that our name is not apperaring in this years Nationwide League fixtures.”

“Our opponent Opera FC had been relegated to Nationwide Div. II. Now we wonder why is FKL bending their own rules if they are claiming we must follow the rules,” noted a club official, one Mr. Kamande.
