Munro puppet resigns from FIFA in new turmoil
Bob Munro's puppet at World Governing Body FIFA has resigned, setting the stage for a very difficult year ahead for the Canadian Immigrant.
Jerome Champagne, who was used and misused by MYSA Chairman Robert Donald Munro called it quits the day before yesterday, just two months after the departure of short-lived communications director Hans Klaus. Champagne was the man who single-handedly installed FKL into office, by advise from Mr.Munro creating the body that has turned Kenyan Football into a cash-point for three directors. Over the recent years, Jerome has been using his position and closeness to FIFA President Sepp Blatter to pursue various agenda's. But his closeness with Munro had taken the word misuse to new heights, as Bob would draft letters from his Spring Valley residence, email them to Jerome who would then pass them to Blatter for signing. These included threats to Government, Ministers and directors of KPL, should they refuse to toe the line. But of late, his influence had been waning following various outcries of shoddy deals and manipulation from other federations including Kenya. Frenchman Champagne, a former career diplomat, had been considered something of a loose cannon within FIFA. He had served as diplomatic adviser to president Sepp Blatter, as deputy general secretary and latterly with responsibility for guiding negotiations with the European Commission over the controversy 6+5 doctrine.
(Pictured: Jerome Champagne. Bob Munro used and misused him, making some of the worst decisions in Kenyan Football. Tough times for the Canadian immigrant to Kenya lie ahead.) The ‘floating’ nature of Champagne’s role within FIFA had led to concerns within some confederations that he was over-stepping his responsibilities and speculation that he might stand against Blatter for the presidency at some future time. He was reportedly unhappy when Blatter preferred in 2007 to recall the once-disgraced Jerome Valcke rather than him to the post of general secretary. Blatter, who once said a FIFA president should serve of maximum of two terms, is expected to stand in 2011 for a fourth four-year term. Could this be the year Bob Munro will face his hardest times? Will he follow in Jamaican Muslim Cleric Al Faisal's footsteps of deportation? Should he fail to resign from all football activities this year, he will most definitely get deported back to Canada.
