Tanzania Dar Yanga retain Bonface Ambani as Shikokoti returns to Kenya
TANZANIA Dar Young Africans(Yanga) have finally bowed and decided to retain Kenya’s Boniface Ambani and Hamis Yusuf, who were among the players announced to have been dropped ahead of the second premier league phase.

The club General Secretary Lawrence Mwalusako told Tanzania Daily News that they decided to keep the players after they failed to get another team to feature for. However, he said Joseph Shikokoti, who was also in the list has been cleared after securing a team inKenya, which Mwalusako did not reveal.

He said according to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) player’s registration rules, a club is not allowed to terminate contract with players during transfer window, unless both sides make a mutual consent and the player manage to get another team to feature for either on loan or on a permanent deal.

Yanga’s latest move might have come due to fear. They were likely to pay a heavy price for breaching contracts with their two foreigners and a local player.

Ambani and Shikokoti are both Kenyans while Yusuf is a local footballer. While Shikokoti and Ambani joined Yanga two seasons ago, Yusuf has been with theJangwani Street club for over three years.

Reports have it that Ambani and Yusuf had filed a suit at TFF for breach of contract and claimed payment for the time remaining in the existing contracts. The trio have a combined 20 months running in their contracts, and for the case of Ambani only, Yanga was supposed to pay him over Kshs.650,000(Approx Tz 11m/- in salaries.)

Ambani, who was the top scorer in last season's league, had eight months still running in his contract.

The towering striker claimed that he secured a lucrative deal in China last year but failed to honour it after the Jangwani Street Club blocked the move.

FIFA regulations regarding contracts stipulate that in the event of termination of services without just cause, compensation shall be payable. It also orders for compensation which shall include, in particular, the remuneration and other benefits due to the player under the existing contract, and the time remaining on the existing contract.
