Olum sinks a brace as Thunders down the Battery Kenyan midfielder Lawrence Olum, 25, claimed a goal in either half as his side Minnesota Thunders came from a goal down in a USL 1 league game to sink The Charleston Battery 3-1 on Sunday night at a rain-soaked Blackbaud Stadium. Randi Patterson opened the scores for Charleston Battery in the 19th minute. Olum brought the Thunders level in the 45th minute when with a diving header he connected to a header beyond the far post, a resultant of a corner kick. Soon after the second half the Thunders were up in front thanks once again to Olum who beat a diving Battery keeper with a shot from the top of the penalty area. Marco Terminesi took the game beyond reach with a third goal in the final minute of the game. With the latest brace, Olum moves his tally of goals to six in 25 league games. With three games to the completion of the regular 30-game season, Minnesota Thunder remain ninth in the 11 team log with 27 points, nine points off the seventh placed Vancouver Whitecaps who occupy the last post season playoff berth. Taiwo Atieno’s Rochester Rhinos is placed sixth with 38 points. Comments (3) Views (699) Date Published (Tue 8th, Sep 2009) ADVERTISEMENT
