Wed 5th Feb 08 - Nyayo National Stadium has undergone a name metamorphosis.

For the next three yeas, 24-year-old, 30-000 sitting capacity Nyayo National Stadium will be known as Coca Cola National Stadium after the corporate entity acquired the naming rights early today.

In September last year, Sports Stadia Management Board (SSMB) put an ad in the dailies asking corporate firms to bid for the naming rights for the Stadium including the Gymnasium and the aquatic centre.

Those rights were today awarded to Soft drink firm Coca Cola in a deal worth US1.5 M (Approx Kshs 120 M) for the next three years.

The deal gives Coca Cola exclusive rights for advertising, beverage supply and naming rights within the stadium.

Further reports divulged to Kenyafootball.com indicate that part of the deal will be to revamp the stadium to make it a World class facility. Notwithstanding, SSMB will continue to manage the facility including handling all bookings for all activities ands events.

Coca Cola acquired the naming rights for South Africa’s Ellis Park which is now christened Coca Cola Park. The concept of naming Stadia is not new with Arsenal Emirates Stadium and Bolton’s Reebok Stadium as other examples.
