FK splits Nationwide League in two
The Nationwide League Division One, which will be comprised of 16 teams, will act as the immediate feeder to the Premier League.
Nationwide League Division one will have two zones – A and B each made up of 16 teams each.
According to FK’s Secretary General Sammy Obingo, the Nationwide league will kick off on the 28th of February, three weeks after the Premier League kicks off.
Posta FC by virtue of being Runners-up in the FK Cup 2008 Championship is one of the teams that will feature in Nationwide Division One. The rest of the teams will be known in due course.
FK has set the Participation Fees to be paid by each club at KShs. 20,000. Player’s cards will cost KShs. 400 - a maximum of 25 players per club. Master Card is set at KShs. 500.
Due to lack of sponsorship, each home team shall pay KShs. 3,000 to the four match officials as well as foot the cost of hiring designated pitches.
FK’s announcement of the Nationwide league structure comes three weeks after KFF had set its own agenda for the same league. KFF retained last year’s format for the league – one Nationwide with tow zones – A and B and announced that it had secured a sponsor with an amount of KShs. 500,000 for the league.
It will be interesting to see ‘fist fights’ on the Nationwide coming up next as KFF had set it’s kick off date for the Nationwide as 7th Feb 09 while FK has the date set for 28th Feb 09.
