AFC Leopards confirmed for 2009 Premier League AFC Leopards path to the 2009 Kenyan Premier League is all but clear. The former Champions have been confirmed as Nationwide Zone ‘A’ Champions after Eldoret Mahakama lost its last game of the season in the board room to Compel FC. The Eldoret Mahakama Vs Compel FC game played last weekend was abandoned in the 87th minute with Mahakama leading 2-1. According to an email sent to news rooms from the FKL Secretary General Sammy Obingo, the match referee reported that the match was abandoned in the 87th after Mahakama had scored what seemed to be a third goal of the game. The goal was disallowed for offside by the referee. The crowd then ran on to the pitch insisting that the referee counts the goal. Due to the match invasion by fans, Compel FC was awarded the match on a three points and 2 goals basis. In essence, AFC Leopards wins Zone ‘A’ and earns the sole ticket and a direct bounce to the Premier League. Due to the deliberation, AFC Leopards now finishes tops with 60 points in 30 games beating Eldoret Mahakama to second spot by just a point.
