Functions of KFF must change . . . As a student of management, my view is that the principles that prescribe the functions of KFF must change both in nature and stature. I have always struggled to understand the objectives of KFF as an organization, and those of the officials as individuals. Well, i know what the individuals are there for and i also know they cannot be held accountable for all the stealing and management inefficiencies because there is no fundamental law that holds them accountable. This brings me to that document called a constitution. I confess to not know what the KFF constitution contains, but i know it must change. It seems that the guys in office have absolute power which is often abused. I believe that power should be distributed and limited by a system of laws based on managerial focus enshrined in the constitution. I propose a system of governance based on setting objectives, also known as MBO. In short, MBO emphasis is on converting the overall organizational objectives into specific objectives for the smaller units, members and all stakeholders. KFF head office objectives must be aligned to those of the provincial and district branches. MBO makes objectives operational throughout each succeeding level of the organization. What is important about this is that the constitution forces the officials to make public concise statements of expected accomplishments. so if the KFF chairman tells us that we expect to make the 2010 world cup, he or she must also tell us how we intend to accomplish this and the steps that are in place to make this a possibility. So KFF does not merely state it's desire to improve funding for STARS, FIND SPONSORS FOR THE LEAGUE, SET UP ACADEMIES,ETC, but these desires must be converted into tangible objectives that can be measured and evaluated periodically. This must be done with the help of the provincial and district branches. Management is about increasing quality and KFF is no different. If this is implemented, KFF will be forced to start strategic planning, be creative, innovative, and most of all is accountable to the stakeholders of the game. Rewards like being elected again must be linked to goal attainment. This will weed out you know who and who and maybe we will attract people with insight about the game and how to manage it.
