Football is the sport we all love. We play it, watch it, and think about it everyday. Football is a game of passion, desire, courage but most importantly it’s a game that can move mountains.

Many laugh, rejoice even cry their souls out when they watch football. We do this because we love the game dearly. Yet despite this, some people can’t see the love of the game as an instrument. An instrument to help people, stop wars and unite people. A country like Kenya has failed miserably to give credit to the game.

For decades, many African countries have excelled in football but Kenya has lagged behind. Many would say only West African Countries are excelling. But let’s take our neighbors Tanzania and Uganda. A decade ago, they couldn’t compete with us, we were the more superior.

Come to present time, both countries are ranked higher than us, they have better leagues, and their national teams are playing well and improving. But what about Kenya, we lack preparation; motivation and humility but most importantly, we have a huge gap in management.

The staff is a joke; the football federation is pathetic as it can be. Why? Power seems to be the only answer. Most coaches and KFF members if not all, use the sport as a political launch, at the cost of our sport, our youth and the country as a whole. Surely they want power and money but why hasn’t anyone stopped this? Is it coz they can’t see it or don’t know about it or are they just plain ignorant? Go figure.

The World Cup qualifiers begin in less than two months, yet the national team hasn’t played a friendly, they have been no training camps or any future planning of a friendly.

But it’s not all down the drain, KPL launched a website. Finally! They seem to be a consistency of the league so far, maybe people are starting to realize the potential of football.

Going back to the national team, the coach “ghost” commented that “he hoped to have had more preparations for the CECAFA qualifier” and “he feels confident of winning.” The same quotes he used about qualifying for the CAN. Which we didn’t! Now he head out for the CECAFA with two or three days of preparations, it shouldn’t even be called preparations. We need a new coach and staff for the national team ASAP.

Another pressing issue is the players “ghost” uses. He prefers to use local based players instead of established players plying their trade in abroad. Why you ask? It’s not coz he is giving the youth a chance to establish them, it’s because he hope the players to be noticed by teams abroad so he could get a piece of the transfer fee.

Notice how many young players play for Tusker FC. Is that the reason or not “WE SHALL NEVER KNOW?” If it unknown players he wants, what about youth residing abroad. The United States, Europe, Asia, Australia.

Living in a technology age and KPL caught up and launched a website, what about players abroad uploading some footage of games they play and KFF officials getting in touch with them. But if horses were wishes, I wouldn’t be writing this, would I? Kenya needs to wake up and see the potential of the game. The World Cup is around the corner and the potential is huge.

Players getting noticed by teams abroad, teams like Brazil or France practicing in our facilities which will expose our country to investors. They would be huge revenue for our antiques, airlines which would increase tourism; our youth would benefit the most from such an experience. Those are just a few of the potentials that could happen.

This is all without Kenya qualifying for the World Cup, then just dream what would happen, if we did qualify. It’s all ours for the taking, only if we make the right moves ASAP.
