How Kenya misses out . . . Assuming that the FIFA Ban on Kenya was non existent, Kenya would still not be featuring in the African Youth Championship currently taking place in Congo. The championship that began on 20th January will end on 4th February 2007. Other than defending champions Nigeria, other countries taking part are; Congo, Gambia, Burkina Faso and Cote D’Ivoire (Group A) and regulars suspects Cameroon, Egypt, Zambia, who together with Nigeria make Group B. Kenya’s way to the Africa Youth Championship finals was halted by Rwanda’s U-20 when they were beaten identical 1-0 at home and away for a 2-0 aggregate loss. The losses were largely attributed to lack of proper team selection and shoddy preparations, luck of funds and motivation of players. But that as Kenyan have become accustomed to, is part of Kenyan football. Kenya has a along while been faltering when it comes to anything relating to youth organization. So for how long shall Kenya continue watching and missing out the Youth Championship bring to fame players like Taye Taiwo ( Marseille, Nigeria), Michael Essien (Chelsea, Ghana), 'Mido' Hossam (Tottenham Spurs, Egypt), Benni McCarthy (Blackburn, South Africa), Pedro Mantorras (Benfica, Angola - Pictured) . . . . . an endless list that includes no Kenyan?
